Food security
Food security could be defined as access to adequate and nutritious food through out year and in future.
Different dimensions of food security and India's status
- Food production; India produces surplus quantity of food and is a net exporter
- Access; Around 10% of Indians still struggle to food as per Government data. This is due to in adequate purchasing power and socioeconomic barriers
- Nutrition: India struggles most here with around 30% stunting, 50% women Anemia, lack of micro nutrients etc. (NFHS)
- Sustainability: 2/3 rd of India is climate vulnerable and faces serious sustainability issues. Including cultivation of water intensive crops
