Robert Noyce

“If ethics are poor at the top, that behavior is copied down through the organization” - Robert Noyce.

This reminds us about the importance of ethics at the top of any organization.

  • Leaders are most visible and hence should display maximum integrity, e.g., Gandhian ethics spread throughout the length and breadth of India
  • Leaders are copied and can set precedents; Nehru answered tough questions in parliament
  • Leaders can lead by example; e.g., Lal Bahadur Shastri showing exemplary courage during 1965 war
  • If top is rotten, bottom will be chaotic, e.g., Soviet Union leaders
  • It is important to create trust in institutions, African nation suffers due to lack of ethics and democracy, worsening sectarian conflicts
Every leader should be ethical, with exemplary integrity so that the entire organization can benefit from the example and leadership.
