Sanchi stupa

  Sanchi Stupa is one of the most important monument in Buddhism having historical and architectural importance.

  • It contains remains of Buddha and his chief disciple Ananda
  • Architecturally it supports an arch and pillar masonry showing state of the art technology of it's time
  • Also carving of stone to create sculptures gives a new style to rock painting and carving
  •  It marks the beginning of creating permanent free standing structure for religion. Later Hinduism and other religions followed it
  • Also elaborate sculptures inspired temple art of later times
  • Buddhist stupas in South East Asia is a continuation of it.
Stupas were created to spread the message of Buddhism far and wide. It symbolized Buddhas life, it's message and demonstrated the best technology of the time.
