Space tourism
Success of Virgin Galactic, Space X and ISRO show space tourism is not fiction anymore.
Challenges
- It could be costly and only affordable to rich
- CO2 emissions
- High energy use
- It requires the efforts of our best minds
- Erratic policy priorities and cost overruns, e.g., Boeing's space mission.
Way forward
- Increased research to reduce cost, CO2 emissions and energy
- Researchers should be freed after meeting goals
- CSR and benefit sharing; including technology developed, e.g., responsible AI
- Space policy formulation with clear guidelines
- Use of renewable energy, e.g., green hydrogen
Space tourism needs clear policy guidelines to minimize resources used, meet social responsibility and enhance research impact.
