India was colonized by the British till from around 1764 to 1947.
Significance of decolonization
- India was impoverished by the British, the drain of wealth left India as a poster child of poverty.
- India economy was developed along the needs of British economy, giving importance to raw materials like tea, jute, cotton etc.
- Indian infrastructure was created to loot India of it's resources not serve it's people, e.g., ports are more connected than urban centers.
- Indian nationalism rose as a response to colonization and modern liberal political structures along it.
Contributions cultural and intellectual decolonization can make to identity of Bharat
- Education could be spread to the masses, which could help in the development of modern cosmopolitan outlook
- Full use of the labour force and it's potential to aid the world.
- Healing the world of the ailments of materialism rising to the status of Vishwa-guru
- Contributing more to cutting edge research and development.
