Decolonization

India was colonized by the British till from around 1764 to 1947.

Significance of decolonization

  • India was impoverished by the British, the drain of wealth left India as a poster child of poverty.
  • India economy was developed along the needs of British economy, giving importance to raw materials like tea, jute, cotton etc.
  • Indian infrastructure was created to loot India of it's resources not serve it's people, e.g., ports are more connected than urban centers.
  • Indian nationalism rose as a response to colonization and modern liberal political structures along it.

Contributions cultural and intellectual decolonization can make to identity of Bharat

  • Education could be spread to the masses, which could help in the development of modern cosmopolitan outlook
  • Full use of the labour force and it's potential to aid the world.
  • Healing the world of the ailments of materialism rising to the status of Vishwa-guru

It should not come at the cost of hatred for English and Judaeo-Christian values, which still functions as a global connecting language and foundation of global North.
